Application and Selection Committee

GOAL
To establish and maintain a fair and open Orange Mound Parade Selection
Process; that will ensure we have a high quality family parade that enhances the Southern Heritage Classic (SHC).

Sub-Committee Descriptions

COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING
Establish a robust website that includes all pertinent parade information. The Orange Mound Parade historical highlights, route, date, deadlines and contact information will be listed.

TELEVISION AND RADIO
Acts as liaison with all television and radio outlets providing live coverage of the Orange Mound Parade. Coordinate recording and memorializing the parade.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Makes presentations to private and public organizations, schools and other groups in and around the Greater Memphis area in order to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the Orange Mound Community and its history.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION

Establishes a selection process for parade entrants. Ensures all entrants have proper credentials before parade day.

LIAISON AND PLANNING
Acts as liaison between the City of Memphis, law enforcement, other governmental agencies to ensure compliance with all rules, regulations and ordinances and the acquisition of all necessary permits. Provides updates to the Southern Heritage Classic Executive Committee on status of parade.

FORMATION AREA

Secures the Orange Mound Parade staging area and works with law enforcement to ensure that only properly credentialed entrants are allowed on the lot.

PARADE OPERATIONS
Oversees operations along the entire Orange Mound Parade route; including integration of floats, dance teams, vehicles and bands in the proper order, as well as timing and flow of participants. Coordinates the deployment and operation of communications systems, including two-way radios, GPS and mobile devices. Oversees the production and distribution of several forms of credentials for the Orange Mound Parade staff and volunteers to enforce access restrictions.

POST PARADE
Coordinates arrival of entrants at the end of the parade. Ensure buses are there to pick up band members. Coordinates clean-up of debris from along the parade route.
